Sourdough Discard Dutch Baby
Have you ever heard of Dutch Baby pancakes? I’ve made them several times for Sunday mornings, but it wasn’t too long ago I found out where this interestingly named pancake came from.
To my surprise, the Dutch Baby pancake is not originated in Netherlands, but in the US. It was popularized in the early 1900s by a family-owned restaurant in Seattle called Manca’s Cafe. The origin of the name “Dutch Baby” is a bit of a mystery, but it is believed to come from the term “Deutsch” (meaning German), referring to its similarity to the German pancake or “Pfannkuchen.”
But now let’s get down to business, which is baking these pancakes. If you haven’t tried these pancakes yet, now is the time to do so. And of course, we’re making these pancakes with sourdough discard. I personally love these pancakes with fresh berries and maple syrup. Whipped cream, chocolate sauce, or jam are also delicious.
